Language Proficiency Linguistic Expert

Definition


Language proficiency assessments are performed by one Language Proficiency Examiner (LPE) certified by the responsible Authority and one Language Proficiency Linguistic Expert (LPLE) certified by the responsible Authority within the framework of an LTB.

Holders of an LPLE authorization may exercise the rights associated with their authorization exclusively within the framework and under the supervision of officially certified LTBs.

Tasks and Responsibilities

a) Responsibility for the mandatory second rating of each entire language proficiency assessment

b) Short written documentation of the assessment process and extensive explanation of the assessment result on the basis of the ICAO Rating Scale

c) Final decision in case of divergent scores of assessment results

e) Possible support of the Head of LTB in management concerns, if requested

f) Activity as an expert in contentious assessment cases (independent expert), if appointed by the Authority

g) Conduction of assessments of competence during the certification and extension of the period of validity of the authorization for LPE

h) Delivery of trainings, such as rater trainings, and standardization measures for LPE within an officially certified LTB, if authorized for that.

Minimum Qualifications

a) Completed teacher training for English (“Lehramtsstudium”: Magister, Diplompädagoge, MA, BA) or

b) Completed diploma program for English (“Diplomstudium”: Magister, MA, BA) or

c) English native speaker with completed language diploma in a country with English as its official language and teaching activity (MA, BA) or

d) possibly other qualifications according to ICAO Doc 9835, Appendix D following the assessment and approval of the responsible Authority.
